Cowboys, Indians and Muslims

Today's poem:
Jesus in cowboy boots
St. Peter as the trail boss herding
Sinners towards the straight and narrow
To the Pearly Gates
Oh bury not
On the lone prairie
Let me my sins confess
And when this cowboy dies
Just shed a tear
And say an "Ave"
Today's thoughts:
The way Wyatt Earp thought is the way our President thinks: You're either for us or against us.
People can dismiss that as too simplistic and in a way it is. But many Americans also think that way.
Earp wasn't religious but his world view is shared by many Christians, Catholics and Protestants, share that view.
That outlook helped more in the Cold War than in the Iraqi "adventure."
Bush and company have a plan for the "new Iraq." They are bringing democracy. Bravo.
Democracy can work in non-Christian lands, notably in India and Japan. But it isn't catching fire in Muslim lands, is it?
(Before you shout "Lebanon," recollect that many non-Muslims live there.)
The Iraqis may pass a constitution this year or at least in our lifetimes but in the meantime, Sunni Arabs may face off against Shiite Muslims there with a lot of good Methodist, Baptist and even Jewish U.S. soldiers and Marines caught in the cross hairs. Whose side do our boys take or are they neutral, which means both sides hate 'em?
Tomorrow, Robertson anoints holy hitmen and other stuff. I know it's hard to do at times but...
Keep hoping.
