Renew, rebuild and revive

Today's poem:

I cry
I cry for the old
I cry for the babies
I cry for New Orleans
I cry for the Gulf Coast
I cry for America

Today's thoughts:

I haven't blogged recently because I have been processing the great tragedy of Katrina and my response to it.

My initial response was summed up in my column for the Logan Republican in Logan, Kansas. I said we must rebuild, renew and revive New Orleans, the Gulf coast and America.

We must. It's an historical imperative. If we don't rebuild, renew and revive, we face revolution, reaction and ruin.

We can look back to Czarist Russia from 1905 to 1917 and its failure to renew, rebuild and revive the Empire. After Bloody Sunday, the people no longer felt the Czar cared what happened to them.

How many people down south feel that way about their government now?

So, in my view, each of us must set our anger and our partianship aside and rebuild, renew and revive our nation by rebuilding, renewing and reviving ourselves.

We did not expect this challenge. We are not prepared for it but is before us. There is no choice, none whatsoever, but to meet it or fail the republic.

Keep hoping!!
